Out of Home Respite

Out of Home Respite — Mid-Missouri Supported Living

Out of Home Respite

Out of Home Respite is short-term care provided outside the home by qualified personnel in a licensed, accredited, or certified waiver residential facility — offering planned relief for primary caregivers when temporary outside placement is needed.

Out of Home Respite provides short-term residential care in a licensed, accredited, or certified waiver residential facility — or in a Shared Living Host Home. This service is designed for situations where temporary placement outside the individual's primary home is the most appropriate option for families who need planned relief from caregiving responsibilities.

Out of Home Respite is a planned, time-limited support — not a permanent placement option or emergency care arrangement. Missouri's Division of Developmental Disabilities limits this service to 60 days per calendar year (or 30 days for individuals residing in an ICF/IDD or State Habilitation Center). A written exception is available from the Division of DD Regional Office when additional time is clinically warranted.

Families considering Out of Home Respite should work with their Support Coordinator to ensure the appropriate authorization is in place prior to services beginning. Contact MMSL to discuss availability and how to plan this service as part of a broader respite and caregiver support strategy.
